Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Regular-Season Champion to be Crowned at Richmond International Raceway
NASCAR will crown a regular-season champion in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) at Richmond International Raceway (RIR) in 2017. NASCAR officially announced an enhanced competition format that will be implemented for its premier series along with the NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) at a press conference in Charlotte, N.C. MENCS will now have a regular-season champion and the driver will be crowned at RIR on Saturday, September 9.

Heath Calhoun, winner of the Crown Royal “Your Name Here” contest and namesake of the Crown Royal Presents The Heath Calhoun 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway, was in Richmond Thursday afternoon for a first-hand look at America’s Premier Short Track. Calhoun unveiled the official race logo on the pace car, took some laps around the ¾-mile D-Shaped oval in the pace car, participated in media interviews and radio call-ins and visited with the track’s staff.
