Inaugural Fan Appreciation Weekend at Richmond International Raceway Says Thank You to Fans

NASCAR Industry Comes Together to Celebrate the Fans During the Regular Season Finale

Fan Appreciation

Drivers, teams, sponsors and NASCAR are joining RIR to recognize the pride and dedication of NASCAR Nation during this weekend-long celebration.

NASCAR fans are some of the greatest in all of sports. Their unmatched passion and loyalty has even earned them the name of NASCAR Nation. And, a fan base like that deserves a weekend dedicated in their honor. That’s why Richmond International Raceway will celebrate NASCAR Nation with the inaugural Fan Appreciation Weekend Sept. 9-10. Drivers, teams, sponsors and NASCAR are joining RIR to recognize the pride and dedication of NASCAR Nation during this weekend-long celebration.

“NASCAR fans are at the root of this sport, and Fan Appreciation Weekend is about celebrating their contribution and giving back to them,” said Dennis Bickmeier, President of Richmond International Raceway. “It’s exciting to see the entire NASCAR industry coming together to say thank you to our great fans. It’s going to be a big weekend, and it’s just the beginning. The inaugural Fan Appreciation Weekend in September lays the foundation for years to come, as this celebration becomes a tradition as we close out the regular season and prepare for the Chase to the Sprint Cup.”

Whether fans are at the track in Richmond or tuning in from Alabama, Michigan or California, they will feel the love during Fan Appreciation Weekend. Here’s a small sampling of what fans can expect — with more to come.

Fans around the country will be showered with praise and thanks on social media, throughout the broadcast and even through special messages on the B-Post from drivers like Martin Truex, Jr., Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney, just to name a few. Fans also will see more than your average sweeps and freebies, with unique items and once-in-a-lifetime experiences up for grabs, like an all-expenses-paid trip to Richmond to ride in the two-seater with former driver and NBC analyst Jeff Burton.

Richmond ticket holders also will get the royal treatment with special access, experiences and an unprecedented number of driver appearances. Most notably, all fans will be invited onto the frontstretch prior to the start of the Federated Auto Parts 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race for a new event, Gridside Live!, featuring 2016 winners and Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup contenders.

The M&M’S® Brand is joining in on the celebration by rolling out the red carpet for the fans, and treating them to a celebratory VIP experience. Fans can walk the red carpet at the Frontstretch Gate and help M&M’S celebrate its 75th Anniversary. A birthday cake, M&M’S characters, M&M’S® Crispy and SNICKERS® Crisper samples, and M&M’S No. 18 Toyota driver and 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Kyle Busch will all be on deck to welcome fans as they enter the grandstands.

The Fan Appreciation festivities kicked off today at Daytona International Speedway. RIR and Sprint surprised one lucky fan with a “flyaway” trip to Richmond for the Sept. 9-10 NASCAR weekend. Ashley from Orlando will experience Fan Appreciation Weekend firsthand and in style, with all expenses paid, a view from the TORQUE Club and “the works” of passes and credentials for an unforgettable weekend.

“I’m very excited to win this unbelievable giveaway and trip,” said Ashley Miller, a local school teacher in the Orlando area. “I’m so grateful for the opportunity and glad I was in the right place at the right time. Thank you to RIR and Sprint for this great moment that will allow me to have a honeymoon - since I didn’t take one when I got married five months ago. I’ve been attending the Daytona races with my Mom for the last eleven years, and I’ve never been to a short track so I’m very excited to go to Richmond. I’ve been a Tony Stewart fan for close to 15 years, and I’m ecstatic to go to the track where he got his first win.”
