Second Round of National Anthem Contest Set for Friday, August 13

Fans Invited to Come Out to Short Pump Town Center at 6:00 p.m.

The preliminary round is over and it’s on to the second round of competition at Richmond International Raceway’s National Anthem Contest, which begins this Friday at Short Pump Town Center. Twelve contestants will perform this week—the first of two weeks of the second round.

All of the second round contestants sang their way in through recorded submissions or judging at last week’s open audition at Short Pump Town Center. Fans are encouraged to come out to the Main Plaza beginning at 6:00 p.m. to enjoy some local talent who are belting out their songs for a chance to sing the National Anthem at Richmond International Raceway on Friday, September 10, prior to the Virginia 529 College Savings 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race.

A few of the songs to be performed are: Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA,” Sugarland’s “Stay,” Heart’s “Alone,” and Patsy Cline’s “Crazy.” Following the performances, judges will decide who moves on to the final round on Friday, August 27.

NASCAR returns to Richmond International Raceway September 10-11 for another doubleheader weekend. The Air Guard 400 is “One Last Race to Make The Chase,” showcasing the final event before the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. Tickets for the Saturday, September 11 race “under the lights” start at $40 and can be purchased by logging on to or calling 866-455-RACE (7223).
