BUBBA burger Contest

NASCAR driver Justin Allgaier (left) and WTVR traffic reporter Amanda Meadows created tasty "Signature BUBBA burgers" at Kroger.

BUBBA burgers® and condiments were flying off the grills yesterday at Kroger on Mechanicsville Turnpike, as NASCAR Nationwide Series drivers Justin Allgaier and Jason Leffler bumped and banged their way around grills with local media celebrities Matt DiNardo (WRIC-TV8 meteorologist), Amanda Meadows (WTVR traffic reporter) and “Sludge” (Y101 radio host), to see who could build the best “Signature BUBBA burger®.”

The contestants were given just 15 minutes to run in to the local Kroger and purchase their signature toppings. They then returned to the grills, run by Americrown Catering chefs, Kendall and Tony, and requested the BUBBA burger® of their choice (Original, Sweet Onion or Turkey).  Once the burgers were done, the contestants built three burgers for the judging panel, consisting of Richmond International Raceway president Doug Fritz, Richmond.com editor Karri Peifer and Marketing Coordinator for BUBBA burger® Jamie Sakin.

After presenting their “Signature BUBBA burgers®” to the judges, the panel voted for a tie between Allgaier and Meadows.  It was left up to the crowd of fans gathered for the event to vote on the best presentation and “sounding” burger. In the end, Allgaier, who is currently third in the NASCAR Nationwide Series points standings, took the checkered flag and was awarded bragging rights.

The recipes, which showed the personality of each contestant, are listed below:

Leffler went with a California style cheeseburger, opting for the Original BUBBA burger®, which included havarti cheese, thousand island dressing and shredded lettuce on a standard bun.

Allgaier agreed that a simple cheeseburger is best, building his burger with two Original BUBBA burgers®, Swiss cheese, A-1 steak sauce and crushed saltines on a thin wheat bun.

DiNardo tapped into his Italian side, building an eggplant parmesan burger.  He used the Original BUBBA burger®, topped with grilled eggplant brushed with olive oil and a little tomato sauce, basil and mozzarella on a garlic grilled gourmet roll with parsley.

Meadows thought about the warm temperatures and went for a Hawaiian style burger.  She used the Sweet Onion BUBBA burger®, topped with hot and spicy BBQ sauce, pineapple, red onion and Swiss cheese on a Hawaiian roll.

“Sludge” took the Sweet Onion BUBBA burger® to a new level, topping it with cheddar mashed potatoes, green chilies, BBQ sauce, muenster cheese, grilled bacon and onion in a hollowed out Focaccia loaf.

In addition to today’s contest, all of the NASCAR Nationwide Series drivers who will be competing in the BUBBA burger 250 at Richmond International Raceway on Friday night, April 30, have been invited to submit their Signature BUBBA burger® combination. All submissions will be featured on www.rir.com for fans to vote on their favorite “Signature BUBBA burger®.”

Voting ends Monday, April 26. The top five vote-getters will be invited to participate in a final “Signature BUBBA burger®” Challenge at Richmond International Raceway on April 30. The burgers will be showcased for a panel of judges to taste and to determine the winner. The champion burger and creator will be recognized during the BUBBA burger 250 pre-race ceremonies and the driver’s team will win a BUBBA burger® lunch at their race shop.

The BUBBA burger® has become America’s #1 selling branded frozen burger. The BUBBA burger® is designed to be cooked frozen. So whether you choose to grill it or cook them in a skillet they are “Simply Delicious.”  Find them in your local grocer’s freezer! And remember, Bubba says, “You’ll Never Bite A Burger Better Than A Bubba!” For more information on BUBBA burger®, please visit www.bubba-burger.com or The Official BUBBA burger Fan Page on Facebook®.
