While Punxsutawney Phil is deciding whether there is another six weeks of winter, Richmond International Raceway (RIR) will host an open house for fans to select and purchase their seats for the 2017 NASCAR season. Tickets for both the April and September NASCAR weekends go on sale to the public at RIR and RIR.com on Thursday, February 2.

Virginia native Macy Causey was announced as a member of the 2017 NASCAR Drive for Diversity class today. The Drive for Diversity program is NASCAR’s top development program for multicultural and female drivers. The 16-year-old Yorktown, V.A. native Causey is one of only six drivers selected to compete under the NASCAR Drive for Diversity banner.

Richmond International Raceway (RIR) will host the inaugural Checkered Flag 5K & Kids Fun Run to start the spring race weekend in 2017. In partnership with the Richmond Road Runners, the race will take runners around the RIR property and onto the historic track surface, finishing the last leg of the race crossing the official RIR finish line. Participants of this unique new family race, now have the opportunity to run where legends have run.

NASCAR will crown a regular-season champion in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) at Richmond International Raceway (RIR) in 2017. NASCAR officially announced an enhanced competition format that will be implemented for its premier series along with the NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) at a press conference in Charlotte, N.C. MENCS will now have a regular-season champion and the driver will be crowned at RIR on Saturday, September 9.
